Hello!

Our
Story

Get to Know Us

We are a British couple with a lived experience of fertility treatment in the United Kingdom. As we did not meet the eligibility criteria for NHS funding, we were left with no alternative but to go through the route of privately funded care. There were a number of challenges we faced along the way, but our faith in God along with our personal resolve enabled us to keep going and realise our dream. Inspired by the birth of our daughter after 5 rounds of IVF, the name Adaobi means 'first daughter of the family' in the Nigerian Igbo language. Our journey has birthed our passion to support  couples who find themselves in a similar situation.

Community Fertility Awareness Workshops

We periodically hold fertility awareness workshops across Hertfordshire to educate the public on fertility issues.

Confidential Support Groups

We understand the unique challenges that couples face while going through fertility treatment. We aim to create a safe space in which couples can share their experiences and encourage each other. In due course we will create a local community hub where couples can meet periodically for mental health support during their journey. This will also include marriage enrichment workshops. Where required, we will collaborate with other professionals for tailormade support.

Fertility Support Training

We support local businesses and organisations to enhance policy and culture around fertility in the workplace. Around 1 in 7 couples will experience infertility, which infers that a significant percentage of workers may be suffering in silence. We explore how to prioritise employee wellbeing without compromising business productivity.

Targeted Ethnic Minority and Faith Community Support

We support communities that have been identified by the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) to be lacking in engaging with fertility care. This includes people from Black & ethnic minority backgrounds within the UK.

We focus on bringing fertility education in a way that embodies people's varying cultural, traditional, faith, and religious beliefs. We also communicate and encourage the balance between observing beliefs and seeking medical care.

Monetary Grants

At Adaobi Fertility, we provide monetary grants to support couples who are diagnosed with infertility, but are not eligible for NHS funded fertility treatment. "Infertility is when a couple cannot get pregnant (conceive) despite having regular unprotected sex...  More than 8 out of 10 couples where the woman is under 40, will conceive naturally within a year if they have regular unprotected sex (every 2 or 3 days)" (NHS, 2023).
